There are many reasons to come to Ilkley.

It is so much more than just a Victorian Spa town - with wonderful teashops, excellent restaurants, quality shopping, Roman ruins and magnificent countryside.

Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the picturesque River Wharfe runs through the town and there are views of moorland in every direction. Ilkley moor is ideal for walking, and exploring and from the nearby landmark ‘Cow and Calf’ rocks the views are panoramic over Wharfedale and beyond.

And there are many places to Visit locally

Bolton Abbey Estate has excellent walking, day fishing, cafes and lovely Gift Shops, as well as the famous 12th century Bolton Abbey Priory to explore. All only 15 minutes away in the car. For the children there are free 'I Spy' cards from The Cavendish Shop covering a number of trails, created in conjunction with Natural England.

Haworth is the home of the Bronte Family. Soak up the atmosphere and explore the moors that inspired these wonderful books. Visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum, church and see the family vault.

Saltaire Village and Salts Mill are an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saltaire was uniquely developed in the nineteenth centurary as a model village by Titus Salt for his mill workers. Today Salts Mill at its centre is home to the David Hockney Gallery, along with a large number of independent shops and cafes.

  • Emmerdale (the TV soap) was set originally in Arncliffe. Later the filming took place in nearby Esholt and now takes place at a purpose built village at Harewood House only 20 minutes away by car, which is a magnificent 18th C. house and gardens.
  • East Riddleston Hall is a National Trust owned 17th C. Manor House and gardens, with a medieval tithe barn in the grounds, and costumed guides on certain days.

    Shopping: Harrogate, Leeds and York are all easily accessible, and wonderfully historic towns with great shopping.

    For Walking Enthusiasts: Be it a gentle stroll, or longer walk, there are paths for all levels of walkers, and as Ilkley is a 'Walkers are Welcome' town pick up a free guide of walks at the Tourist Information Office opposite the Railway station.

    RHS Gardens Harlow Carr: stunning year round interest and colour to be enjoyed at these tranquil gardens within half and hours' drive of Ilkley.

    The Dales Way starts in Ilkley, which is a long distance walk to Bowness in Cumbria.

    The Yorkshire Dales National Park is easily accessible - stunning Yorkshire landscapes to enjoy and villages to explore.

    For sports enthusiasts ~ Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club, Ilkley Golf Club, Ilkley swimming pool and Lido. Enjoy outdoor swimming with breathtaking views of the surrounding moors. For Cyclists there are many good cycle paths, and bike and tandem hire is available at J.D.Cycles in Ilkley. There is also good fishing locally and horse riding, good climbing and many other outdoor sports too.

  • For Train Enthusiasts there is nearby Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway which runs through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Alsothere is The National Railway Museum at York which is an easy daytrip.
